The legality of sports betting is a subject of debate, however, some states have begun to permit the sport. Sports betting is legal in Iowa from 2019, both online and offline. The Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission oversees the industry and a licensing fee is paid by the online operator. Sports betting in Michigan is legal on the internet and in retail casinos. The program was first introduced in three casinos in March of 2020, which was a month ahead of the Coronavirus pandemic. Mississippi also dabbled in the sport betting industry but hasn’t fully adopted mobile betting.
The repeal of PASPA created a wave in legislative and business momentum. Four major American sports leagues have partnered with betting companies on sports in recent years.
